    Metaverse is the future social platform. It is the natural order of things that one social media replaces another. MySpace was replaced by Facebook, which is slowly being replaced by Instagram and TikTok, which will probably be replaced by the Metaverse. It should not be surprising, especially since the development of VR technology is rapid. However, we can still only wonder about the impact of Metaverse on our lives in the future. What will it be? We will try to discuss possible options here.

    The impact of Metaverse on our social lives

    New social platforms always affect the ways in which people communicate online. Facebook was popular with posts and news feeds, Instagram and Snapchat put more impact on photos and short videos. The Metaverse will also have an impact on our social communication. It is, however, unclear how.

    The first possibility that comes to mind is putting more focus on the NFTs. It is quite plausible that with the development of Metaverse, more impact will be put on our virtual goods. They might become as defining as clothes, cars or hairstyles. Even now, our identity is partially expressed by what we post on social media. However, our profiles are still based on our creativity and physical items. Yet, with the spread of VR headsets and more people joining the Metaverse, it is possible that we will start to express ourselves by the NFTs. Instead of buying a T-shirt at a shopping mall, we will be purchasing virtual clothes to show off in our Metaverse environment.

    The second feasible option is that the majority of our social lives will be transferred to the Metaverse. The growing capabilities of the VR platforms will lead to better, complete and real experiences. Projects like the Cyber Tokyo – a virtual city where users might buy and decorate penthouses, and invite people to them – are bound to increase the significance of our virtual avatars. Probably, after some time, people will prefer to watch movies together in the Metaverse, instead of travelling throughout the city to reach the cinema. Perhaps concerts will also be held online and not in the real world – this might even result in special venues prepared for such events, where the acoustics are impressive, and it is easy to transfer the sound to the virtual platform. The way we interact with each other and attend social events might change remarkably.

    The impact of Metaverse on business

    While Metaverse will surely have a huge impact on our social lives, it will probably affect the business as well. After all, new jobs will be created just to meet the demand of the VR users. Moreover, since it is likely that most social interactions will be transferred to the Metaverse, it might also impact several already existing industries.

    For instance, the clothing industry might spot the growing call for NFT clothes, and start hiring designers just to prepare them. Or, perhaps, they will find a way to translate the real-life clothes into the Metaverse platform. 

    Business relations will also be held differently in the future. Metaverse will certainly impact official meetings. It is already popular to do them online, for example through Zoom. However, with the rise of VR platforms, it is more than possible that we will start doing this in the Metaverse. The virtual meetings will be more authentic, and will allow both parties to understand each other better, since it will be easier to spot speakers’ emotions than on traditional video calls.

    We cannot fully define the impact of Metaverse on our future lives. However, it is possible to predict some of its effects, based on what we, as humanity, have already experienced. Therefore, we can suppose that our future social interactions will be moved to the VR platform.
